Popular Nigerian singer Timaya has shared his perspective on remaining single despite his successful music career. In a recent interview with Naija FM, the “Plantain Boy” crooner explained that marriage has never appealed to him, though he hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility in the future.
Timaya admitted that he values his independence and prefers to avoid the potential complications that marriage could bring.
“I’ve never been a ‘marriage guy’ right from time, but who knows? It can change. Marriage ‘dey craze,’” he remarked. “I just think about it—if I marry today, would I be able to get out? In all my previous relationships, I was always the one to leave because I don’t like stress.”
Why Marriage Isn’t a Priority
The singer attributed his hesitation towards marriage to his desire for freedom and a stress-free life. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace of mind in his relationships and shared his preference for open communication.
“If you have a problem with me, let’s talk about it. I don’t like going to bed with unresolved issues. I might just die o! I don’t want anything to bother me at all,” he added humorously.
While Timaya remains cautious about tying the knot, he acknowledged that his views might evolve in the future.

Despite his stance on marriage, Timaya takes pride in his role as a father. He revealed that his children live with their respective mothers, but he maintains a strong relationship with them.
“Fatherhood can be stressful, but it’s also enjoyable,” he shared. Timaya explained that he prioritizes spending quality time with his children, who often visit him for extended stays.
