The Zamfara State Police Command has attributed the recent explosions in two villages within Dansadau district, Maru Local Government Area, to the Lakurawa terrorist group.
Speaking on the incident, the State Police Commissioner, Muhammad Dalijan, confirmed that one person was killed and three others sustained injuries in the explosion caused by a bomb planted under a bridge. The device was reportedly planted by the Lakurawa terrorists, who have been under heavy pressure from Nigerian security forces.
The explosion occurred early Wednesday morning around 8:00 a.m. A commercial vehicle carrying passengers to Dansadau town triggered the explosive device, leading to the tragic incident.
During a phone interview with Daily Trust, Commissioner Dalijan provided further details: “There was an explosion this morning along the Dansadau road. The device, planted under a bridge, detonated when a motorist drove over it. Unfortunately, one person lost their life, and three others were injured.”
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosive was planted by remnants of the Lakurawa terrorists, who are reportedly fleeing from sustained military operations. According to Dalijan, the group is attempting to relocate to the Birnin-Gwari forest via Zamfara State while under heavy military pressure to leave the country.
The Police Commissioner reassured the public of ongoing efforts to eliminate the threat posed by these terrorists. “By the grace of God, we will track them down and deal with them decisively. We are urging members of the public to provide any useful information about their movements to aid security operations,” he stated.
The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Zamfara State and other regions affected by terrorist activities. It underscores the need for sustained collaboration between security agencies and local communities to ensure the safety of lives and property.
