President Bola Tinubu appointed Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) because of his exceptional work ethic, dedication, and sense of responsibility, according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Akpabio made this statement during the launch of a book commemorating Wike’s 57th birthday in Port Harcourt. The Senate President praised Wike as a relentless workaholic and emphasized that his commitment to excellence in any position he has held made him deserving of his current role.
Akpabio, addressing Wike at the event, shared insights into why President Tinubu chose him for the Federal Executive Council (FEC), despite Wike’s affiliation with an opposition party. “Let me explain why you were appointed to the FEC by President Tinubu, even though you come from an opposition political background,” Akpabio said. “Your remarkable track record—first as a local government chairman, then as Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, followed by your tenure as Minister and two terms as governor—has earned you this position.”
The Senate President continued by praising Wike’s ability to deliver outstanding results, even while serving in the opposition. “Despite your position in the opposition party, you have shown unwavering dedication and have made this administration proud,” Akpabio noted. He commended Wike for his transformative work in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly in Abuja. “Under your leadership, you have turned Abuja into a model city that reflects the aspirations and dignity of our nation’s capital,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President also highlighted Wike’s no-nonsense approach to governance, stressing that the Minister is a public officer who refuses to accept excuses in the pursuit of any task. “In less than two years, you’ve transformed Abuja into a bustling construction site, and the results speak for themselves,” Akpabio concluded, acknowledging Wike’s significant contributions to the ongoing development of the city.
