A 32-year-old man, Timileyin Ajayi, has confessed to killing his 24-year-old alleged girlfriend, Salome Eleojo Adaidu, with no remorse, stating that he felt no regret for the crime.
Ajayi, who is currently being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Nasarawa State Police Command in Lafia, was arrested on January 12 while attempting to dispose of the victim’s severed head after allegedly murdering and dismembering her body.
Ajayi is accused of killing Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving at Nicon Insurance in Abuja, when she visited him at his residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State. The suspect reportedly did not plan the murder but carried it out after discovering that Adaidu was allegedly cheating on him.
In an interview with Channels Television, Ajayi explained that his feelings of betrayal led to the violent act:
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time, it’s not something I planned. It happened on that day and it happened. Not that I had the plan in mind, she was cheating. She hides most of the things from me. I got to know from her phone. I saw her chats with other guys on the phone, and that was why I decided,” he said.
Ajayi further stated that he does not regret killing Adaidu, believing that life is about reciprocity.
“I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal. If you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person. You have to understand what the person is going through to truly empathize. That is why I don’t have any regrets, because we were actually compatible,” he said.
The family of the deceased, however, denied any knowledge of Ajayi or his relationship with Salome. Salome’s elder sister, Esther Adaidu, expressed shock and grief at the murder, pleading for justice.
“This so-called Timi guy, we don’t know him. We have never seen him until we were called up to tell us that this guy murdered and dismembered our sister. I demand and need justice to be served to this guy sitting over there because he is the one that murdered my sister and he confirmed it to me,” she said.
Salome’s uncle, Samson Adaji Adaidu, also spoke out, expressing the family’s expectation for justice.
“The position of the family is we discovered this through the Nigerian Police and we are expecting justice from the police,” he stated. He described the brutal nature of the crime, saying,
“He has succeeded in destroying our daughter, not ordinary killing, he butchered her into pieces. He cut that body into more than 50 pieces, and when you look at the whole thing, it seems he was preparing the body for consumption because he cut them and left them in about six polythene bags.”
The tragic incident has left the family devastated, and they are now calling for the full extent of the law to be applied to the suspect.
