Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has strongly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as divisive and dramatic tendencies.
This followed remarks allegedly made by Wike during a recent media chat.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Media Adviser, Muhktar Gidado, Governor Bala accused Wike of incoherence and opportunism, suggesting that the former Rivers State Governor’s actions have betrayed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which played a significant role in his political ascent.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors Forum, accused Wike of indulging in “contradictions, grandstanding, and shifting loyalties,” asserting that such behavior undermines the PDP, the platform that facilitated Wike’s political success.
The statement read, in part:
“Chief Nyesom Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP. Yet, he now gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him. His recent media outburst was another reminder of his transactional approach to politics, where personal ambition overshadows loyalty, principles, and collective interests.”
Governor Bala highlighted the differences between himself and Wike, emphasizing his own focus on public service over personal theatrics.
“Unlike Wike, who thrives on drama and divisiveness, I have always understood that politics is a platform to serve the public good, not a game of self-serving theatrics,” he stated.
He further criticized Wike’s “opportunistic alliances” and erratic behavior, describing them as traits that alienate his allies and reveal him as an unreliable figure.
The Governor concluded by reiterating his commitment to principled leadership and collective progress, contrasting it with Wike’s alleged penchant for personal ambition.
This exchange underscores ongoing tensions within the PDP and raises questions about the party’s internal unity and direction as it navigates its future amidst shifting political alliances.
