Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has criticized the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of serving the interests of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and urging him to officially join the party.
Mohammed described Wike’s attempts to discredit him as desperate and ineffective, stating that Nigerians can see through his alleged facade.
Speaking on Thursday, the Bauchi governor labeled Wike a “transactional politician” whose loyalty shifts to suit his personal ambitions. In response, Wike, through a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, accused Mohammed of being a “greedy politician” and using Wike’s appointment as an excuse for his inability to lead effectively as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Bala Mohammed Responds
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described Wike’s remarks as reckless and indicative of his waning political influence. He accused Wike of a history of betrayal, citing prominent figures such as Senator John Azuta Mbata, Dr. Peter Odili, and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi as past victims of Wike’s alleged treachery.
The statement read:
“Let Nyesom Wike be reminded that while he lives in a delusional, self-created universe of seeing splits and factions in the PDP, the party remains resolute and united, apart from a few turncoats and quislings led by him who are desperately committed to weakening it for the benefit of the APC, whose willing tool and favored foot soldier he has become.
“Under Sen. Bala Mohammed’s vibrant and visionary leadership, the PDP Governors’ Forum and the party’s core organs, including the Board of Trustees (BOT), are working quietly and assiduously to clean the party of Wike’s treachery and perfidy.”
Allegations of Betrayal
Mohammed accused Wike of being instrumental in creating internal crises within the PDP, pointing to the ousting of successive party leaders such as Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu. He labeled Wike a “use-and-dump” politician who is now actively working to benefit the APC.
The statement continued:
“Such a path of perdition is not the portion of genuine PDP members who are working tirelessly to retire the APC in 2027—the very party, with its failed policies, that Wike has vowed to help win re-election. Wike’s antics cannot detract from Bala Mohammed’s record. His outbursts are the desperate cry of a man whose political relevance is fading.”
A Call for Resignation
Mohammed urged Wike to resign from his ministerial position and fully align with the APC, adding that his current actions undermine the PDP.
“The time for noise-making is over; it is time for governance. Let Wike reflect on his conduct and do the honorable thing: RESIGN AND ALIGN FULLY WITH THE APC he so eagerly serves. Until then, his words will remain as hollow as his loyalty,” the statement concluded.
This latest exchange reflects the ongoing tensions within the PDP as it seeks to rebuild ahead of the 2027 general elections.
