Anambra 2025: APC Vows To Wrestle Power From APGA

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its commitment to securing victory in the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025, pledging the necessary support to unseat the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, made this declaration on Saturday in Awka while addressing party stakeholders, including governorship aspirants, party members, and political support groups. During his visit, he also inaugurated the new APC state secretariat in Awka.

APC’s Strategy to Win Anambra

Ganduje emphasized that the APC is determined to bring the South-East back to the center of Nigerian politics by ensuring that Anambra joins the ruling party at the federal level.

“We have to take you back to the good old days when the South-East played a central role in Nigerian politics,” he said.

“The APC’s national headquarters, in collaboration with the government of the day, is ready to provide all necessary logistics and strategic support to ensure our party takes over governance in Anambra.”

He noted that the current political landscape in the South-East, where four different parties control five states, is unacceptable and called for stronger regional alignment with the ruling party.

“It is important for the South-East to be connected to the national ruling party to ensure greater development and political inclusion,” he added.

APC’s Commitment to South-East Development

Ganduje also reassured the Igbo people of the APC-led federal government’s dedication to fostering economic growth and security in the region. He acknowledged the business acumen of the Igbo community, stating that their economic influence already makes them a national force.

“The national secretariat of APC will work closely with the Presidency to bring the South-East into mainstream national politics,” he stated.

“President Bola Tinubu is committed to ensuring that every region of Nigeria is carried along in terms of development, security, and economic stability.

He also assured Anambra residents that past injustices against the South-East would be addressed under the current administration.

APC Gubernatorial Aspirants Unite for Victory

During the event, Anambra APC Chairman, Basil Ejidike, praised the party’s national leadership for fostering unity among members. He described APC as the new political powerhouse in the state, attracting major political heavyweights.

The five APC governorship aspirantsPaul Chukwuma, Obiora Okonkwo, Chukwuma Umeoji, Johnson Onunkwo, and Nicholas Ukachukwu—pledged their commitment to working together, regardless of who emerges as the party’s flagbearer.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that the APC wins the November 8 election,” they said collectively.

“Whoever emerges in the primaries will have the full support of the others, as we are focused on securing Awka Government House for APC.”

Anambra’s Political Landscape: Can APC Dethrone APGA?

Anambra has historically been a stronghold of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also wielding influence before APC’s recent inroads. However, APC’s growing presence in the state—alongside increasing defections of political heavyweights—suggests a more competitive race in 2025.

With Ganduje’s assurance of federal backing and the party’s strategic push, APC appears determined to mount a formidable challenge against APGA’s continued dominance in Anambra State.
