Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has refuted claims suggesting he is responsible for the pregnancy of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Rebecca Hampson, dismissing the allegations as politically motivated attempts to tarnish his image.
The rumor, which recently gained traction online, was fueled by a viral post from a popular blogging platform. However, Nengi has publicly debunked the speculation through her social media accounts.
Governor Diri Reacts to the Allegations
Responding to the claims, Governor Diri expressed shock and disappointment, questioning why such falsehoods were being circulated—especially on the day his administration marked its 5th anniversary.
His Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, issued a statement via social media, categorically denying any personal relationship between the governor and Nengi.
“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri. It is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are not happy with the towering political profile of the governor.”
Condemning Social Media Misinformation
Oredipe also criticized the increasing spread of falsehoods on social media, suggesting that such rumors were designed to distract from Governor Diri’s developmental strides.
“This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media platforms,” he added.
He further pointed out that while the governor was commissioning a newly constructed road in Yenagoa, detractors were busy spreading baseless allegations online.
A Politically Motivated Smear Campaign?
Describing Governor Diri as a leader of integrity, Oredipe reaffirmed that the allegations were completely unfounded and orchestrated by political opponents seeking to damage his reputation.
The governor’s camp has urged the public to disregard the rumors and instead focus on the administration’s achievements in Bayelsa State.
