Labour Party governorship aspirant for the upcoming November election in Anambra State, Mr. John Nwosu, has officially withdrawn from the party’s primary election scheduled for Saturday.
Nwosu’s decision to exit the race comes just hours before the primary, where he was expected to contest against Dr. George Moghalu, former Director-General of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
In a letter addressed to the public, Nwosu cited glaring irregularities in the build-up to the primary, particularly concerning the delegates’ list, which he claimed had been manipulated and falsified. He noted that the list was only made available a few hours before the election, raising serious concerns about transparency and compliance with party and electoral regulations.
“After a thorough assessment of the actions and misconduct by Labour Party officials at both the national and state levels, it is evident that the process falls short of the constitutional standards of our party, as well as INEC’s guidelines,” Nwosu stated.
He further referenced the recent Supreme Court ruling on April 4, 2025, which nullified the position of Barr. Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party. Nwosu argued that any process overseen by Abure, including preparations for the Anambra primary, now lacks legal credibility.
Highlighting that no proper delegates’ congresses were held in any of Anambra’s 21 local government areas, Nwosu described the emergence of a so-called delegates’ list as fraudulent. He claimed the list was altered multiple times before being posted just eight hours to the scheduled start of the primary.
“Participating in such a flawed process would not only legitimize clear illegality but also betray my principles, personal integrity, and Christian values,” Nwosu asserted.
He concluded by thanking his supporters, assuring them that his decision was made in good faith, and expressing a willingness to engage in future political contests that uphold fairness, transparency, and due process.
“I remain committed to serving the people of Anambra and participating in credible democratic processes,” he said.
