The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight has extended an invitation to Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retired), the state’s Sole Administrator, for a critical interactive session scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025.
The development was disclosed by Hon. Akin Rotimi Jr., spokesperson for the House of Representatives, following the committee’s inaugural meeting held earlier on Wednesday. This session comes shortly after the committee was officially inaugurated by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
According to Rotimi, the initial meeting allowed members of the committee to review preliminary reports and assess the situation in Rivers State since Vice Admiral Ibas assumed the role of Sole Administrator.
He stressed that the committee is acting under the authority of Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the National Assembly to conduct full legislative oversight over states under specific circumstances.
“Acting within its constitutional mandate, the committee resolved to invite Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), Sole Administrator of Rivers State, to appear before it for a comprehensive interactive session,” the statement read.
Rotimi highlighted the importance of the session, noting that it is intended to provide lawmakers with a clearer understanding of the governance dynamics in Rivers State and to ensure that the House fulfills its oversight obligations in line with public interest and constitutional provisions.
The interactive meeting with Vice Admiral Ibas is scheduled to hold at 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
