Troops from the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, under the command of the 35 Artillery Brigade, have apprehended a man suspected of trafficking human body parts in Ogun State.
The suspect, identified simply as Gani, was captured on Saturday in the Kulanla Odomola area.
During initial interrogation, Gani confessed to engaging in the illicit trade for over a decade. He disclosed chilling details about his operations, revealing that he had relied on selling human body parts as his main source of income for the past ten years.
“I have survived for the last 10 years by selling human parts,” he reportedly said. “Most of the parts I sell are exhumed from newly buried graves in cemeteries, while others are harvested from abandoned corpses found by the roadside.”
Gani was reportedly en route to deliver a human body part to a buyer when he was spotted by vigilant members of the public. Alarmed by his suspicious movements, they quickly raised an alarm. A mob soon gathered, attempting to take the law into their own hands by lynching him. However, troops from the Nigerian Army intervened just in time, rescuing Gani from the enraged crowd.
Following his rescue, the suspect was handed over to police authorities at Noforija for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, confirmed the arrest. He emphasized that the operation aligns with the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across the country.
“The troops intervened swiftly to rescue the suspect from mob action and subsequently handed him over to the Nigeria Police along with exhibits recovered,” Lieutenant Colonel Ayeni stated.
Authorities have assured the public that thorough investigations will be conducted to uncover the full extent of Gani’s activities and identify any possible collaborators.
