A former Nigerian midfielder Jay Jay Okocha, has told Cristiano Ronaldo that he was not meant to win the World Cup.
Morocco became the first African nation in history to progress to the semi-final stage of the World Cup after Youssef En-Nesyri’s powerful header sent them through on Saturday and sent the Selecao crashing out.
This was very likely Ronaldo’s last ever World Cup game, and the 37-year-old ended it in floods of tears as he hurried down the tunnel after full-time.
Liverpool legend, Luiz Suarez also cried profusely when Uruguay crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage.
“Oh yes! We’ve seen it in this tournament. A lot of stars have cried because they knew this could be their last chance of playing in the World Cup.
“We saw Suarez and now Ronaldo. What a fantastic career he has had. He’s an icon but I mean, some things are not meant to be.
“I don’t think that it was meant for him to win the World Cup because they had everything. But credit to Morocco.”
