The Ogun State Police Command has detained Oladokun Ayomide, a final-year student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, on suspicion of poisoning his girlfriend, Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu, and another woman, Odumosu Semilore.

The suspect invited his girlfriend to his home in the Surulere neighbourhood of Abeokuta on Friday, according to the police, and then gave her a poison that was thought to be a mixture of brownie cakes, alcohol, and an unidentified damaging substance.

Mmasichukwu asked her classmate Semilore to go with her to her boyfriend’s house in the Surulere community, Camp, Abeokuta, as they were heading to the suspect’s residence.

As soon as the victims consumed the allegedly toxic cake, they began to lose consciousness, after which they were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A preliminary investigation by the police revealed that Ayomide was suspected of intending to harm the victims. However, the reason for the suspect’s action was still unknown at the time this report was filed.

The victims were responding to their treatment, according to police public relations officer Omolola Odutola; she further detailed that additional investigation was being conducted to ascertain the actual cause of the incident.
