One person has been confirmed dead and several shops destroyed after a fire ripped through Gusau Central Market in the state capital of Zamfara, Nigeria.
The fire reportedly broke out around 9 pm on Tuesday night in the furniture section of the market, which is the largest in the state capital.
The Nigerian Fire Service responded quickly and firefighters battled the blaze throughout the night, preventing it from spreading to other shops. However, they were unable to save the life of a shop owner who died while attempting to enter his shop to extinguish the fire himself.
