Atsi Kefas, the younger sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, has tragically passed away after succumbing to injuries sustained during a violent attack by armed robbers.
Aged 44, Atsi died on Monday night at a private hospital in Abuja, where she had been receiving medical treatment following the assault.
The incident occurred last Thursday, when armed bandits ambushed a vehicle traveling along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area. The vehicle was carrying Atsi, along with their mother, Jummai Kefas, who fortunately was unharmed. During the attack, Atsi was struck by gunfire, sustaining severe wounds. She was first treated at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being transferred to Abuja for specialized care.
In the wake of the attack, Dauda Samaila Agbu, the chairman of Wukari Local Government, confirmed the tragic event to the press, expressing deep sorrow and concern over the incident. He described the situation as “deeply troubling” and confirmed that Atsi’s injuries had been severe enough to require the transfer to a larger medical facility.
Although both the state government and the Kefas family have yet to issue an official statement confirming her death, a trusted family source disclosed to Premium Times that Atsi passed away on Monday evening. The heartbreaking news has since spread, triggering an outpouring of grief and sympathy across social media, with many expressing their condolences and support for the Kefas family during this difficult time.
