Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has announced a significant increase in the Christmas bonus for state workers, approving ₦150,000 for each employee.
This marks a notable rise from last year’s bonus of ₦100,000. The announcement was made through a Facebook post on Thursday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, who confirmed that the bonus would be paid before 1 pm on Tuesday.
This gesture highlights Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of state workers, particularly during the festive season. The bonus comes in the wake of the state’s recent implementation of a new minimum wage act, which exceeds the federal minimum wage of ₦70,000 by an additional ₦5,000 for Ebonyi workers.
In related news, the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has approved a 0.05% marginal increase in workers’ emoluments under the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). This decision was shared by Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, during a briefing with State House correspondents on Thursday.
Governor Soludo revealed that the RMAFC had originally proposed a 0.75% increase due to the substantial responsibilities involved in mobilizing and allocating funds for state development projects. However, after deliberation, the NEC approved a more modest 0.05% increment. The RMAFC has been tasked with drafting a bill to formalize the proposed review, which will then be presented to the National Assembly for legislative approval.
