The 2025 budget, which totals N49.7 trillion, was presented by President Bola Tinubu to a joint session of the National Assembly just 24 hours prior, on Wednesday. Dubbed “The Restoration Budget: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” the document outlines the government’s fiscal priorities for the upcoming year, including key allocations for security, infrastructure, and social services.
During the plenary, senators deliberated on the overall objectives and guiding principles of the budget, engaging in a comprehensive review before passing it to the next stage in the legislative process. With the passing of the bill, the budget is now set to be reviewed by the Committee on Appropriations, with further scrutiny and adjustments anticipated before its final passage.
In announcing the adjournment, the Senate emphasized the importance of allowing members the opportunity to return to their constituencies and spend time with their families during the holiday period. The session will resume in mid-January to continue deliberations and progress legislative business.
