Former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to harness the country’s youthful demographic in its efforts to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
Shekarau made this statement during the unveiling of the Board of Trustees (BoT) for the Northern Forum of Zonal and State Youth Leaders of the PDP in Abuja.
The event was attended by several key party figures, including Hon. Enemona Anyebe, the Kogi State Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Joel E.B. Adagadzu, the North Central Zonal Organizing Secretary, and Dr. Yunana Iliya, the National Ex-Officio, among many others.
In his address, Shekarau emphasized the importance of youth engagement in the political process, urging them to rally behind the PDP, which he described as the only viable alternative to address Nigeria’s pressing issues. He pointed out that the PDP’s 16 years in power were marked by significant improvements in the country, including the delivery of democratic dividends and an enhanced quality of life for Nigerians. He argued that with the right strategies, the party should be returned to power in 2027 to continue its work for national development.
Furthermore, Aruwa Ismailab, the Chairman of the Northern Forum of Zonal and State Youth Leaders of the PDP and the North Central Zonal Youth Leader, highlighted the crucial role of social media in the party’s outreach efforts. He explained that the party’s online platforms would serve as powerful tools for awareness creation and rebuilding public trust in the PDP, which he believes is key to regaining the confidence of the Nigerian electorate.
Senator Shekarau also reiterated that capitalizing on the vast youth population in the country would be instrumental for the PDP in retaining power in the 2027 elections. By uniting the youth and effectively addressing their concerns, he believes the party can secure a promising future for Nigeria.
