IGP Directs FCID to Investigate Death of Jimoh Abdulqaudri in Police Custody
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has instructed the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to immediately take over the investigation into the tragic death of Jimoh Abdulqaudri, who passed away while in police detention in Kwara State. The IGP also visited the bereaved family on Sunday, expressing his condolences and calling the incident “unfortunate.”
Abdulqaudri, 35, a resident of the Balogun Fulani community in Erubu/Asunnara, Ilorin, died in police custody during the early hours of Friday, 20th December 2024.
IGP’s Visit to the Family and Commitment to Justice
During his visit to the family of the deceased in Kwara State, IGP Egbetokun reiterated his commitment to ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation. He met with the family, where he was received by the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Alhaji Sadiq Atiku Fulani, who spoke on behalf of the grieving relatives. The IGP expressed his profound sympathy and reassured the family that every effort would be made to uncover the details surrounding Abdulqaudri’s death.
“The IGP assured the family that the Nigeria Police Force would leave no stone unturned in investigating this unfortunate death,” a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said. “He emphasized that justice must be served swiftly and impartially.”

The IGP also emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and accountability. He stressed that the Force has a zero-tolerance policy toward unprofessional conduct within its ranks and is determined to address any form of misconduct.
