[BREAKING] Ibadan Stampede: Court Orders Remand Of Ooni’s Ex-Wife, School Principal

A Chief Magistrate in Ibadan, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, has ordered the remand of Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife; Oriyomi Hamzat, the owner of Agidigbo FM; and Fasasi Abdulahi, the principal of Bashorun Islamic High School.

The remand will continue until advice is received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.

The ruling, delivered on Tuesday, followed the suspects’ arrest in connection with the tragic stampede that occurred at Bashorun Islamic High School. The trio was arraigned at Chief Magistrate Court 1, Iyaganku, Ibadan, under tight security.

They are facing a four-count charge, including conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failing to provide adequate security and medical facilities during the event.

Tensions ran high outside the courtroom as supporters of Oriyomi Hamzat gathered, but law enforcement officials were present to ensure order. A brief altercation was reported when the police vans transporting the suspects departed from the court premises, but the situation was quickly brought under control.
