Security operatives in Anambra State have made a significant breakthrough by apprehending a notorious kidnapper, identified as 38-year-old Pablo Mamu from Ughelli, Delta State.
According to a statement from SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, the operation led to the seizure of several weapons and a stolen vehicle. Among the items recovered were an OFN rifle, a locally made pistol, a live 9mm ammunition, eight live cartridges, and a black Lexus 330 jeep with two different plate numbers: ABJ 159 LC from Abuja and JRV 928 SX from Enugu.
Joint Security Operation Leads to Arrest
Ikenga explained that the breakthrough followed a well-coordinated operation by a Joint Security Team, comprising police officers and members of the Anambra Vigilante Group. Acting on credible intelligence, the team stormed Mamu’s hideout, where they successfully recovered the weapons and the vehicle. The authorities conducted a thorough search of the location, which led to the discovery of the incriminating items.
Police Commend Public Collaboration
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, commended the collaboration between law enforcement and the public. He emphasized the importance of teamwork in gathering actionable intelligence, which has proven essential in combating crime. CP Itam reiterated the need for continued cooperation to ensure the safety and security of residents, particularly during the festive season when criminal activities tend to rise.
Recovery of Stolen Vehicle Linked to Kidnapping
In a separate development, Ikenga also reported a significant achievement in the case of the recent kidnapping of Mr. Justice Azuka, the Honourable Member of the State House of Assembly for Onitsha North Constituency. On the evening of December 24, 2024, around 9:20 PM, Azuka was abducted by unidentified assailants while returning home on Ugwunapampa Road, Onitsha.
Ikenga confirmed that police operatives from the Inland Town Division had launched an intense operation in the wake of the kidnapping and successfully recovered Azuka’s vehicle.
