Troops from the 1 Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, have successfully eliminated several terrorists, including the infamous leader Alhaji Ma’oli, during an operation in Zamfara State.
This significant achievement was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by Lt. Col. Abdullahi Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre.
The operation took place on December 26 in the village of Maisheka, located near Kunchin Kalgo in Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State. According to the statement, the area had long been plagued by Ma’oli’s reign of terror, making this operation particularly crucial for the local population.
Ma’oli, notorious for his extortionate tactics, had frequently imposed illegal taxes on residents of villages such as Unguwan Rogo, Mai Sheka, and Magazawa, as well as other neighboring communities in the Bilbis area of Tsafe LGA. His violent control over these areas had caused significant hardship for the people living there.
The successful elimination of Ma’oli has brought much-needed relief to the residents of Bilbis and surrounding areas, marking a major victory for both the military and local communities.
The operation was launched in response to intelligence reports indicating that terrorists, riding motorcycles, were active in the Bilbis axis of Tsafe LGA. Acting swiftly, the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma not only disrupted the terrorists’ plans to launch an attack on the locals but also reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the region from future threats.
The Joint Task Force emphasized that Operation Fansan Yamma remains determined to track down and neutralize all remaining terrorists and their collaborators across the area of operations. In addition to combatting the immediate threat, the Task Force continues to work closely with local communities, focusing on the long-term goal of achieving sustainable peace and security in Zamfara State and the broader region.
