WhatsApp has announced that starting January 1, 2025, it will no longer support certain older Android phones, including models from Samsung, LG, and Sony, as well as devices running Android KitKat or earlier.
iPhones with iOS 12 will lose support in May 2025. The app emphasized that this decision aligns with technological advancements and the need to focus on newer devices.
Affected users will be notified in advance and are encouraged to back up their data and upgrade to supported devices. Affected Android devices include:
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E (2014)
- HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
- LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
WhatsApp will continue supporting devices running Android 5.0 or newer.
