Hon. Rachael Averik, the Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the Governor of Kaduna State, narrowly escaped an ambush by suspected bandits on Thursday, January 2, 2025, in Southern Kaduna.
The attack took place between Tsauni Majidadi and Gani villages in Sanga Local Government Area as Averik was returning to Gwantu after attending a condolence visit and commissioning a hospital built by Alhaji Muhammad Umar Numbu in Arak Chiefdom earlier that day.
The assailants opened fire on her convoy, triggering a violent gun battle between the gunmen and Averik’s security detail. Unfortunately, during the exchange of fire, Averik’s driver and a police officer sustained gunshot wounds. Both were promptly treated for their injuries.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the ambush. In response to the attack, the Kaduna State Government condemned the assault and reiterated its commitment to improving security in the region to protect citizens and public officials.
Despite the traumatic experience, Hon. Averik expressed gratitude for her survival and extended her sympathies to the injured members of her team, thanking them for their courage during the incident.
