Ohanaeze President Vows to Secure Nnamdi Kanu’s Release, Offers Personal Sacrifice

The newly elected factional President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Jackson Omenazu, has pledged to prioritize the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a cornerstone of his leadership.

Gists9ja reports that Omenazu has declared his readiness to sacrifice his personal freedom, and even his life, to ensure Kanu’s release, which he believes is vital for restoring peace in Igbo land.

In a statement on Wednesday, Omenazu reaffirmed his commitment, saying, “I stand firmly ready to trade my liberty, my freedom, and even my life in the pursuit of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.”

Omenazu announced his intention to collaborate with religious groups across Igbo land, including Christian, Muslim, traditional, and Jewish communities. He emphasized that leadership is defined not by titles but by sacrifices made for the collective good of the people.

The Ohanaeze leader revealed that the last weekends of every month in 2025 would be dedicated to prayers and supplications, calling on divine intervention for Kanu’s release and the restoration of peace.

Drawing parallels with the Yoruba leadership’s successful efforts in securing the release of Sunday Igboho, Omenazu called for a unified and strategic approach to achieve justice for Kanu. He highlighted the need for bold diplomacy and innovative tactics, rather than superficial measures.

“We recognize the historical precedents set by the Yoruba leadership exemplified in the release of Sunday Igboho, where steadfast solidarity and bold diplomacy carved pathways to justice,” Omenazu stated.

Omenazu urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to respond to the cries of the Igbo people and pledged to serve as a guarantor for Kanu’s conduct if released. He emphasized that advocating for Kanu’s freedom is not a threat to Nigeria’s stability but a step toward reconciliation and justice.

“The challenge before us is profound, yet it is not insurmountable. The advocacy for Kanu’s freedom underscores the need for a unified front,” he said. “Let us not shy away from this noble endeavor.”

The Ohanaeze leader appealed to all Igbo people and citizens of goodwill to rally together in pursuit of justice, invoking the sacrifices of past leaders who fought for the rights and freedoms of their people.

As part of his strategy, Omenazu committed to mobilizing prayers and advocacy efforts, believing that spiritual and diplomatic approaches will pave the way for Kanu’s release. “We shall consecrate the last weekends of each month throughout 2025 as sacred times for prayer, supplication, and ordinances, seeking the countenance of Chukwu Okike Abiama (God Almighty) for divine intervention,” he added.
