The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted recent rumors regarding the alleged hacking of the Enugu State Government’s official bank account.
Online reports had claimed that a cyber attack led to the theft of 1.09 billion naira from the state government’s treasury. However, the police have described these claims as unfounded and without any factual support.
In a statement issued to the press and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF clarified that its investigation, led by the National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC), found no evidence of a cyber attack. Instead, the incident was identified as a case of procurement fraud, not a breach of cybersecurity.
The police further confirmed that a suspect had been arrested in Enugu State in connection with the fraud, and the stolen funds had been fully recovered by the state government.
The statement emphasized that the Enugu State Government, along with other ministries, departments, agencies, and corporate partners, has worked closely with the NCCC to strengthen security measures for their financial systems. It urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to ensure the reliability of news sources before sharing any claims.
