Some unidentified gunmen have abducted the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Grace Ogunleye.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road.
According to sources familiar with the development, Ogunleye was attacked and abducted while returning from official duties.
She had earlier visited the Ilejemeje Local Government secretariat before travelling toward Ido Ekiti when the incident happened.
Her vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside, while her whereabouts remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.
Family members, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that repeated attempts to contact her through her mobile phone had failed, as the line had remained switched off since the abduction.
Confirming the incident, the Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje Local Government, Mr. Falade Sunday, said security agencies had already been notified.
He added that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe rescue of the vice chairman.
The latest incident has further heightened concerns over insecurity and cases of kidnapping in different parts of the country, with residents increasingly calling for stronger security measures and improved protection for public officials and citizens alike.
