A Rivers State politician, Blessing Fubara, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to reports, Blessing Fubara has already obtained the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.
Although he shares the same surname and local government area with incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara, both being from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, it remains unclear whether they are directly related.
Confirming the development, Rivers State NDC Chairman Success Jack stated that Blessing Fubara is among the party’s governorship aspirants.
However, he also noted that he could not verify whether the politician has any family ties with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“Yes, he (Blessing Fubara Snr) obtained his expression of interest form yesterday in Abuja, and we are prepared and still preparing to win not only governorship election, but all the elections in Rivers State, come 2027 general election,” Jack said.
The latest move comes barely weeks after Blessing Fubara defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC.
Speaking after he was received in Abuja by the National Leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, alongside other party stakeholders, Fubara described the NDC as a “moving train.”
He said his decision to join the party was driven by the desire to protect the interests of Rivers people.
According to him, the “soul” of Rivers State is currently at stake and citizens must work toward reclaiming the state politically ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also expressed confidence that Rivers State would witness positive changes after the next general elections.
The declaration adds to the growing political activities and realignments already shaping Rivers State politics ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
