The Anambra State Police Command has arrested ASP Newton Isokpehi, the police officer captured in a viral video threatening violence against anyone who attempted to film him while on duty.
The officer sparked outrage online after the video surfaced showing him allegedly threatening to shoot anyone who recorded him during operations.
Following widespread public criticism and condemnation, the police command said it swiftly identified and detained the officer.
According to the command, internal disciplinary proceedings have already commenced in line with the ethical standards and disciplinary regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The police also disclosed that the officer had been subjected to a drug test as part of efforts to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the conduct displayed in the video.
He stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined institution that would not tolerate misconduct, abuse of office, incitement or any form of unprofessional behaviour capable of damaging public trust and confidence.
The command further assured Nigerians that the outcome of the disciplinary process would be made public.
It added that any officer found guilty after investigation would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with police regulations and the law.
