A man has reportedly been accused of assaulting his three-year-old stepdaughter at their home in Gberigbe, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to reports circulating online, the child’s mother is also allegedly a victim of physical abuse by her husband and had remained silent while he reportedly abused the young girl.
Neighbours are said to have intervened during the latest alleged incident after reportedly witnessing the child being assaulted.
A video circulating on social media shows the neighbours confronting and berating the child’s mother for allegedly failing to protect her daughter.
The mother could be heard screaming at the neighbours as they confronted her. The neighbours subsequently carried the child away from the premises while the woman continued shouting.
Photos of the child shared online appear to show her with a swollen face and scratches reportedly sustained during the alleged assault.
According to the reports, the husband fled the area following the incident.
The child’s mother has reportedly been arrested in connection with the matter, although details surrounding the circumstances of her arrest and the ongoing investigation remain unclear.
