
A serving councillor representing Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Rosemary Aduku, has reportedly died in captivity days after she was kidnapped.
Aduku, popularly known as Hon. Rosella by her colleagues, was reportedly abducted on October 1, 2026.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, including whether her abductors demanded or received any ransom.
The Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, confirmed her death in a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026.
Williams described the late councillor as a humble, dependable and kind-hearted person who sought to make those around her happy.
“It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden demise of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku, the Honourable Councillor representing the good people of Ogugu Ward III in the 8th Olamaboro Legislative Council,” the statement read.
The chairman added that Aduku, fondly called Hon. Rosella by her colleagues, was known for her humility and reliability.
“Though your life was short-lived, we will definitely take solace in your legacies and testimonies we have received since your demise,” Williams said.
He also prayed for strength and comfort for her immediate family, members of the Olamaboro Legislative Council, the local government’s executive council and residents of Ogugu District as they mourned the loss.
Williams announced that the councillor’s burial was scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre and invited members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attend the ceremony.
As of the time of filing this report, further details about the circumstances of her death and the identities of those responsible had not been disclosed.
