A yet-to-be-identified Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) has reportedly been crushed to death by a truck along Hospital Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The fatal incident reportedly occurred opposite Mega Primary School, triggering distress among residents and passers-by who witnessed the scene.
According to footage shared on Friday by Akure-based radio station Crest FM, residents could be heard shouting as people gathered around the accident scene.
Eyewitnesses said the officer had attempted to intercept the truck, which was reportedly travelling in the fast lane, but was unable to stop it before the collision occurred.
The officer was said to have become trapped beneath the trailer after the truck struck him.
The footage also showed some of his colleagues appearing distressed as they watched the aftermath of the incident, while residents gathered around the scene.
As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances that led to the officer’s attempt to stop the truck remained unclear.
