After Botched Takeover Bid, MC Oluomo Storms NURTW Secretariat [VIDEO]

The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, on Tuesday paid a visit to the union’s national secretariat in Abuja following a dramatic takeover attempt by a rival faction a day earlier.

Footage obtained from the scene showed a heavy presence of security operatives stationed in and around the premises, with clear signs of damage to offices and property allegedly caused during Monday’s disruption.

The incident is believed to have been triggered by a move led by Tajudeen Baruwa, who reportedly attempted to assume control of the secretariat alongside a group of supporters. However, the effort was short-lived, as operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command intervened and arrested Baruwa along with six others.

According to the police, the group tried to enforce a court ruling without the involvement of authorised judicial officers, such as court bailiffs or sheriffs, raising concerns about the legality of their actions.

Responding to the development, Akinsanya distanced himself from the judgment cited by the opposing faction. He stated that he was not a party to the case and revealed that the ruling in question had already been challenged in court, with a stay of execution reportedly secured.

The clash highlights deepening leadership tensions within the transport union, as rival groups continue to battle for control, raising concerns about stability within one of Nigeria’s most influential labour organisations.
