Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, have successfully rescued three nurses who were abducted by armed attackers from a primary health centre in Akure.
The Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this during a briefing at the agency’s headquarters, revealing that the victims were freed in the early hours of Saturday following coordinated rescue operations.
Victims Freed in Early Morning Operation
According to Adeleye, the kidnapped health workers regained their freedom at about 4:30 a.m. after operatives tracked down the assailants.
He added that the rescued nurses are currently receiving medical attention at an Amotekun facility, following the traumatic ordeal.
Father, Son Also Rescued Hours Earlier
In a related operation, Amotekun personnel also secured the release of a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son who were abducted on Friday evening in the Pelebe community along Oda Road in Akure.
The commander explained that the duo was kidnapped between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., but swift intervention by security operatives led to their rescue around 1:00 a.m.
“Our men engaged the kidnappers in a fierce confrontation before successfully rescuing the victims,” Adeleye said.
Details of Health Centre Attack
Reports indicate that the earlier abduction of the nurses occurred around 2:00 a.m. at a government-owned primary health centre located in the Oke Ijebu area of the city.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attackers, believed to be armed bandits, arrived in a bus and forcefully gained entry into the facility. While some health workers managed to flee, the nurses on duty were overpowered and taken away.
The victims were reportedly bundled into the vehicle and transported to an undisclosed location before their eventual rescue.

Reassuring residents, Adeleye emphasized that safeguarding lives and property remains a top priority for the Ondo State Government.
He urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information, noting that community support is critical in combating rising insecurity.
Rising Concerns Over Attacks on Health Facilities
The incident has once again raised concerns over the vulnerability of health workers and public institutions to criminal attacks, particularly in parts of the country experiencing heightened insecurity.
