Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Hope Uzodimma as chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), dismissing reports suggesting plans to replace him.
The decision followed widespread speculation about an alleged leadership shake-up within the forum after reports emerged that some members had purportedly announced Peter Mbah as the new leader of the group on Thursday night.
However, speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting held at the Imo Lodge on Friday, APC governors moved quickly to dispel claims of internal division, insisting that the forum remains united and fully behind Uzodimma’s leadership.
Governors who attended the meeting included those from Ondo, Kaduna, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue and Jigawa states, among others. Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor, while Agbu Kefas reportedly attended briefly before departing after a short discussion with the host governor.
The motion for a vote of confidence in the forum’s leadership was moved by Nasir Idris, who stressed that Uzodimma remains the duly recognized chairman of the PGF, while Uba Sani continues to serve as deputy chairman.
Addressing the controversy, Idris said there was no crisis within the forum to justify the reports circulating in the media.
“We don’t have any problem to justify what they have said. So, I want to seize this opportunity to move a vote of confidence in our chairman and his deputy,” he stated.
Also reacting to the rumours, Uba Sani described the reports as unfortunate and misleading, insisting that the Progressive Governors’ Forum remains more united than ever.
According to him, the governors are fully aligned in their support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu and committed to strengthening the ruling party ahead of future political activities.
“What I can say here is that all of us woke up to that very unfortunate story, which was virtually in all the media in Nigeria. But the truth of the matter is that the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum is very united,” Sani said.
“We are stronger now than at any other time. We also want to assure everyone that the APC is united, the governors are united, the forum is united, and there is no problem at all,” he added.
Uzodimma, while speaking after the meeting, also rejected claims of division within the party, maintaining that APC governors remain focused on governance and preparations for future elections.
The Imo governor stated that members of the forum had resolved to continue supporting President Tinubu and intensify efforts aimed at improving governance and delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians.
“Governors of the All Progressives Congress are united and resolved to support Mr. President and ensure that he emerges successfully in the upcoming elections in January 2027,” Uzodimma said.
He further noted that the governors agreed to work harder in their respective states by prioritizing people-oriented policies and social intervention programmes designed to improve citizens’ welfare and strengthen public confidence in the party.
The development comes amid increasing political realignments and speculations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party stakeholders seeking to project unity within the ruling APC.
