Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has called for the investigation and possible arrest of U.S.-based missionary Alex Babir following controversial remarks about insecurity in Nigeria.
Ahmad’s reaction comes hours after Babir released a video criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over renewed attacks in Plateau State. The incident in question involved gunmen who reportedly killed more than 10 people in Anguwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area, on Sunday, March 29.
In the video, Babir accused the Nigerian government of failing to take decisive action to curb ongoing violence, particularly attacks affecting Christian communities.
Responding, Ahmad alleged that the missionary’s statements were inflammatory, claiming he had been “moving around openly, spreading hate and attempting to incite violence against Nigerians of diverse backgrounds.”
He urged authorities to take immediate and lawful action, including investigation and possible arrest where necessary, stressing the need to maintain peace, unity, and public order.
The exchange has sparked debate online, with opinions divided over freedom of expression, national security concerns, and the government’s handling of insecurity in affected regions.
