With less than 24 hours remaining before the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary in Anambra State, one of the aspirants, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, has announced his withdrawal from the race.
This announcement was made in a statement on Friday evening by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to Morka, Umeoji informed the ruling party of his decision to step down, citing consultations with his supporters as the key factor behind his decision. The statement highlighted that Umeoji’s choice to withdraw was made after careful deliberation with those backing his candidacy.
The APC spokesperson’s statement read: “An aspirant in tomorrow’s gubernatorial primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, has informed the Party of his decision to withdraw from the election. He shared that this decision was made in good faith following consultations with his supporters across the state.”
The APC expressed its gratitude to Umeoji for his dedication and commitment to the party, both in Anambra State and nationally, acknowledging his contributions during the course of the campaign.
“We thank Rt. Hon. Umeoji for his aspiration and his unwavering support of the Party in Anambra State and nationwide,” the statement continued. “It is our hope that Rt. Hon. Umeoji will continue to offer his full support to the eventual APC gubernatorial candidate and work tirelessly towards ensuring the victory of the Party in the November 8, 2025, Anambra State gubernatorial election.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially scheduled the Anambra gubernatorial election for November 8, 2025.
