Panic broke out in Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday morning after an explosion and fire were reported at a gas outlet around Liberty Junction.
The Federal Fire Service (FFS), FCT Command, said its firefighters, alongside other emergency responders, swiftly moved to the scene and contained the fire before it could escalate into a major gas explosion.
According to the command, the incident occurred at about 6:30am on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
In a statement shared on its Facebook page, the Federal Fire Service said:
“Federal Fire Service, FCT Command firefighters and other emergency responders today, Sunday 27th September 2026 at about 6:30am swiftly responded to a gas fire at Liberty Junction, Kubwa, Abuja, averting what would have been a major destructive gas explosion.”
The command also released a video showing its personnel battling the fire at the facility.
Footage from the scene showed extensive damage to the building housing the gas outlet, with thick smoke rising from the facility.
Several vehicles and motorcycles parked around the area also appeared to have been affected by the fire.
The Federal Fire Service did not immediately disclose the cause of the incident or confirm the extent of property damage.
