BREAKING: Rivers Assembly Halts Impeachment Proceedings Against Gov Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has suspended ongoing impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

Lawmakers agreed to pause the process during their resumed plenary session in Port Harcourt on Thursday, effectively easing tensions that had escalated the political crisis in the state.

The decision is believed to be part of efforts to create room for dialogue and de-escalation after days of heightened uncertainty surrounding the leadership of the oil-rich state. Sources within the Assembly indicated that the President’s involvement was aimed at stabilising the situation and preventing further constitutional conflict.

The suspension does not terminate the impeachment process but places it on hold, signaling a temporary truce as consultations among key stakeholders continue.

Political observers say the development may open the door for reconciliation between the executive and legislative arms of the state government, whose rift had raised concerns about governance and security.
