BREAKING: Tinubu Extends Tenures Of NCoS, NIS Chiefs By 18 Months

President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap.

The extension means Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will end on June 30, 2028.

The approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the extension followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in both services and allow their boards sufficient time to appoint successors.

“President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains,” the statement said.

Onanuga said Nwakuche was nominated by Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, and his appointment was confirmed by the Senate in March 2025.

Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.
