Popular celebrity businessman and nightlife promoter, Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has publicly admitted that his failure to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 general election was a mistake, revealing that he has now chosen a new political direction focused on cooperation with the federal government.
The socialite made the remarks while speaking at a political gathering in Imo State, where he described the event as the outcome of weeks of planning aimed at strengthening unity and support for the current administration.
According to him, the meeting brought together political stakeholders and supporters determined to build stronger collaboration with the government at the centre.
Shift From Political Resistance
During his speech, Cubana Chief Priest explained that years of political resistance had failed to produce the expected results, prompting him and his associates to reconsider their strategy.
“We have decided to partner with the government at the center. We are not ready to fight. We tried fighting and it didn’t work for us,” he said.
He stressed that cooperation with the federal government would create more opportunities for development and political relevance, especially for people in the Southeast region.
Praise for Governor Uzodimma
The businessman also used the opportunity to commend Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, for maintaining strong ties with the federal government.
According to him, the governor’s close relationship with the administration in Abuja has helped the state attract projects and federal attention that might otherwise have been difficult to secure.
He noted that collaboration rather than confrontation is often the most effective path toward development.
Commendation for Seyi Tinubu
Cubana Chief Priest also praised Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Tinubu, describing him as a unifying figure who has played an important role in bridging political, regional and ethnic divides among young Nigerians.
He suggested that Seyi Tinubu’s outreach efforts have helped strengthen relationships across various communities and political groups.
Regrets Over 2023 Election Position
Reflecting on the 2023 presidential election, the socialite openly acknowledged that he previously opposed Tinubu’s candidacy but now believes that decision was politically misguided.
“Politics is a game,” he said. “We don’t want to lose again and we will never waste our votes again.”
His comments suggest a growing willingness among some political figures and influencers to align more closely with the ruling administration ahead of future elections.
