Alex Ikwechegh, the lawmaker representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has dismissed threats to recall him over his endorsement of Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid.
Ikwechegh, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said he had committed no wrongdoing by speaking the truth about the governor’s achievements.
Speaking through his senior media aide, George Ezeikpe, the lawmaker insisted that he should not be “crucified” for acknowledging the developmental and economic strides recorded in Aba and other parts of Abia State.
He added that he still enjoys strong grassroots support and would not be distracted by attempts to discredit him.
“What sin has Honourable Ikwechegh committed for saying the truth about what the Governor has done? He won’t be bothered or distracted by the recall threat,” Ezeikpe stated.
The Aba Ngwa Indigenous Movement had earlier threatened to initiate a recall process unless Ikwechegh convenes a town hall meeting to explain his role in the endorsement of Governor Otti by the Old Bende People.
According to the group’s leaders — Rowland Ajuzieogu, Adimchinobi Nwaigwe, and Jamike Ikonne — Ikwechegh’s support for Otti does not represent the mandate or interest of his constituents in Aba North and South.
