A Nigerian social commentator, Abu Amir, has said that the recent attack on Iran generated more public outcry from northern Nigerian users on X than the persistent killings, kidnappings and terrorism ravaging Northern Nigeria.
In a post shared on X, Amir wrote, “Do you know that the attack on Iran generated more public outcry from northern handles on Twitter than the endless killings, kidnappings, and terrorism ravaging the north?”
The commentator’s post highlights a growing frustration among some Nigerians over what they perceive as selective outrage over things happening in their own country and focusing on the country afar off.
“Reacting to Amir’s post, @Gracious Oboh wrote,” To them, their Islamic brothers in a faraway territory being attacked by “infidels” deserve more sympathy than their own brothers and family members being killed in their thousands at home by Islamic terrorists. Hypocrites!.”
Another X user @PJ wrote,”Their own backyard is burning, no protests , no outcry but here they are crying for a country that miles away. Double standards everywhere.”
The exchange has since generated conversations online about selective outrage, regional insecurity, and public engagement on national issues.
