The Obidient Movement, a rapidly growing political support group, has officially begun strengthening its grassroots infrastructure in preparation for Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential campaign.
As part of its efforts, the movement is focusing on mobilizing and organizing supporters at the grassroots level to ensure Obi’s success in the upcoming elections.
Yunusa Tanko, the national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, emphasized that with a well-structured grassroots network, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has a strong chance of securing victory in 2027. Tanko made this statement during a one-day symposium titled “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact.” The event was organized by the Obidient Movement and various support groups and took place at the All Saints Cathedral Auditorium in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Tanko pointed out that the outcome of the 2023 elections, which saw Obi’s victory denied due to widespread electoral malpractice, highlighted the need for a more organized and robust political structure. He firmly believes that with unity and collective effort, Obi can clinch the presidency in 2027.
He stated, “We are committed to promoting good governance and accountability, and we are bringing together key stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions about Nigeria’s future. This event is a testament to our commitment to unity, justice, and equity. Our preparations for the 2027 election will be thorough; we will ensure that our agents are well-prepared, constantly trained, and ready to take action.”
Tanko further emphasized that a new and better Nigeria is achievable, but only if citizens make informed choices in their leaders. “We are dedicated to ending bad governance by ensuring the right leaders are elected. In the 2023 election, we were accused of lacking a political structure, but Peter Obi clearly won, even though he was denied victory due to electoral fraud. This time, we will ensure history does not repeat itself,” he added.
He also acknowledged widespread dissatisfaction across the country, including in the northern region, with the current government. Tanko affirmed that the Obidient Movement would continue to push for electoral reforms, advocating for changes both legally and physically. The movement plans to engage in street mobilization, take legal actions, and present reform proposals to the National Assembly in its ongoing fight for a more transparent and fair electoral system.
Ultimately, the Obidient Movement aims to empower Nigeria’s youth, urging them to actively participate in the political process to bring about meaningful change and ensure accountability in leadership. The movement’s vision for the future is clear: a Nigeria where good governance is the norm, and citizens are able to freely elect leaders who will truly serve their interests.
