A junior staff member of the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, identified as Ikenna Onuoha, has been found dead in what authorities suspect to be a case of suicide.
Onuoha’s body was discovered on March 25, 2026, along a bush path in Amaeke-Isiadu, located within Umuahia North Local Government Area. The discovery was made by local security operatives who later alerted the police.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, Maureen Chinaka, said preliminary findings suggest the death may have been self-inflicted.
According to her, there were no visible signs of physical injury on the body at the time it was recovered. She added that the remains have since been deposited in a morgue for preservation and further examination.
“The body has been taken to the morgue, and an autopsy will be conducted. Initial observations point to suspected suicide, but investigations are still ongoing,” Chinaka stated.
She assured that the police would continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide updates once investigations are concluded.
The case has raised concerns within the local community, with residents awaiting further clarification from authorities as efforts continue to determine the exact cause of death.
