
The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court sitting in Awka over separate allegations involving defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, physical assault and alleged unlawful procurement of abortion involving minors.
The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, following investigations into the separate cases.
According to the police, the suspects include Chinedu Chiekwu, a male resident of Umuoli Village, who was arraigned over the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026.
Another suspect, Sunday Anele, was arraigned over an allegation of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, which allegedly resulted in pregnancy.
Ugochukwu Okereke was also arraigned over an allegation of luring a 13-year-old girl into a nearby bush and allegedly sexually assaulting her.
Similarly, Ebuka Nwachukwu was arraigned over an allegation of luring a six-year-old child into his room at Okpoko, where he allegedly sexually abused her.
The fifth suspect, Ogechi Ofoma, a female resident of Awada, Obosi, was arraigned over an allegation of using a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her five-year-old daughter, identified as Oluebube Ofoma.
The sixth suspect, Obianuju Okafor, was arraigned over an allegation relating to the unlawful procurement of an abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.
The police also provided an update on a widely circulated video involving a 36-year-old woman who was allegedly seen engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving her child.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police have concluded their investigation into the matter and forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for necessary legal action.
Ikenga added that the suspect remains in police custody pending further proceedings.
The police said the arraignments formed part of ongoing efforts to investigate and prosecute cases involving gender-based violence, child abuse and other related offences in Anambra State.
