Police Seek Public Help to Identify Woman Found Dead in Ibadan Drainage

The Oyo State Police Command has called on residents to assist in identifying an unknown woman whose body was discovered in a drainage channel in the Egbeda area of Ibadan.

In a statement released on Monday, March 16, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed that the grim discovery was made two days earlier, on Saturday, March 14.

According to the police, the incident was first brought to their attention by a concerned citizen who operates a car wash business around Ile Marun, along the busy Iwo Road axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The individual reportedly noticed the lifeless body lying inside a nearby drainage upon arriving at his workplace and promptly alerted authorities.

Following the report, a team of officers from the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), swiftly responded and visited the scene. Upon arrival, they confirmed the presence of the unidentified woman’s body inside the drainage channel.

Preliminary observations carried out at the scene revealed visible injuries, particularly around the head, raising strong suspicions that the woman may have been a victim of violent attack. While the exact cause of death is yet to be determined, the police indicated that foul play cannot be ruled out.

The scene was documented with photographs before the body was evacuated and transferred to the Adeoyo State Hospital Mortuary in Ring Road, Ibadan, where it has been preserved pending an autopsy.

The police have since launched a full-scale investigation aimed at uncovering the identity of the deceased and the circumstances leading to her death. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to piece together evidence that could shed light on what transpired.

As part of the investigation, the command is urging anyone with missing female relatives or relevant information to come forward. Concerned individuals are advised to report to the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters or contact the nearest police station to aid in identifying the victim.

The command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice, stating that all necessary steps will be taken to uncover those responsible for the incident.

Residents were also encouraged to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could help prevent crime and enhance security across the state.
