An Ibadan-based cleric, Kayode Amusan, popularly known as Agbala Gabriel, has come under intense public scrutiny following allegations of sexual misconduct and claims that donations raised for sick individuals were mishandled.
The controversy has sparked heated debate across social media platforms, where the cleric had previously cultivated a strong reputation as a compassionate religious leader known for mobilising financial support for vulnerable and sick individuals.
For years, Agbala Gabriel built a significant online following by presenting himself as a pastor deeply committed to charity and humanitarian work. Numerous videos circulating on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok often showed him praying for struggling families and appealing to the public for donations to help people facing serious health challenges.
However, that reputation has recently been overshadowed by a series of allegations now spreading widely online.
Fundraising Controversy Over Sick Woman
One of the most talked-about issues involves a woman identified as Morenikeji, who reportedly suffered from a serious spinal condition. Her medical case had earlier attracted public sympathy and financial donations from Nigerians.
In a viral video, Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola disclosed that she had initially assisted in raising funds for the woman’s surgery before later discovering that the family sought additional support from the cleric.
According to the actress, she decided to withdraw from the fundraising effort after learning about the new arrangement.
“I initially raised money for the woman’s surgery, which wasn’t enough,” Daramola explained. “But as soon as the family took her to Agbala Gabriel’s care, I withdrew.”
She further alleged that the cleric later failed to fulfil promises made to assist the woman.
“Later, I got to know that Gabriel abandoned them and did not provide the accommodation and surgery support he promised,” she said.
The daughter of the sick woman also made claims in the same video, stating that she eventually took her mother away from the cleric’s care due to concerns about how the situation was being handled.
Blogger Raises Fresh Allegations
While the controversy surrounding the medical fundraiser was still attracting attention, another allegation surfaced online.
A blogger known as Iyalaje Courtroom alleged during a live broadcast that the cleric had mismanaged donations and engaged in sexual relationships with women within his church.
According to the blogger, one of the women involved, identified as Bolu, was reportedly a former backup singer in the church choir.
The blogger claimed that the young woman became pregnant for the cleric and later gave birth to twins.
“She was about 23 when the relationship started and she is now 25,” the blogger alleged. “Agbala Gabriel initially denied the pregnancy, but after pressure he later accepted responsibility and rented a house for the lady and the twins.”
Charity Advocate Speaks
A charity advocate, Princess Adeyinka, also claimed she intervened when the issue first surfaced.
According to her, the cleric initially denied responsibility for the pregnancy before later acknowledging it.
“Agbala Gabriel impregnated Bolu and refused to take full responsibility initially,” she said. “I personally went to him to plead with him to take responsibility when I first heard about the matter. At first he denied it, but later he accepted responsibility.”
Pastor Denies Allegations
As the accusations continued to circulate widely online, the situation sparked a fierce debate among Nigerians. While some supporters defended the cleric, citing his past charitable activities, critics called for greater transparency regarding the allegations.
Reacting to the claims, Agbala Gabriel denied any wrongdoing.
He told **The Punch that the allegations were attempts to tarnish the reputation of prominent Christian ministers.
“This is how they try to bring ministers of God down,” he said.
“All ministers who become famous face this kind of lies. We see men of God like Enoch Adeboye and other well-known pastors being dragged on social media every day. That is just how things are on social media, where people make false allegations.”
Despite the denial, the controversy continues to generate widespread discussion online, with many Nigerians calling for clarity regarding the accusations and the handling of donations meant for vulnerable individuals.
