Survivors of a terrorist attack on Sunday are in urgent need of blood at Anka General Hospital, Anka LGA, Zamfara State, security researcher Malik Samuel says. Eight security officers and 19 civilians have died.
The officers, providing multi-agency protection to locals, were from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
They were escorting the locals going to Nasarawa Market in Bukkuyum Local Government Area when the armed criminals ambushed them.
“4 soldiers, 3 policemen and 1 civil defence personnel died in the attack, with 19 civilian casualties. There is a scarcity of blood at Anka General Hospital, where the wounded were evacuated,” Samuel wrote on his X page as a follow-up to his earlier post about the incident.
He had earlier posted about the same incident, giving the route and specific environment where the terrorist operation occurred.
“The incident happened between Gwashi and Gurusu. Attack was most likely carried out by Muhammad Gwaska,” his earlier report on the attack read.
“Bandits in Zamfara this afternoon attacked a military-led convoy of civilians from Gwashi heading to Nasarawa Market in Bukkuyum local government area,” Samuel disclosed on his X page.
”A couple of soldiers and a policeman were among the casualties, with 12 bodies of civilians recovered so far.”
“It will be interesting to see if the president will physically campaign in the northwest, especially in Zamfara, and what he’ll tell the people,” the researcher stated in another post
“The level of underreporting and abandonment that go on in the region is quite unfortunate.”
The attack happened a few days after an army camp in Bindin Town in the same state came under heavy gunfire by terrorists. It was reported that not less than 25 soldiers paid the supreme price while the attacking elements went away with weapons and vehicles.
At press time, the military had said nothing about the Sunday attack. Defence HQ last posted on its official X page on August 28, reporting the successful arrest of terrorist agents and destruction of criminal hideouts by troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Kaduna and Katsina states.
