Six-year-old twin boys who were abducted from the Brighter area of Minna, Niger State, have regained their freedom after spending more than two months in captivity.
The twins, Umar and Anas, were reportedly kidnapped during the Eid al-Adha celebrations in June 2026 in an incident that shocked residents and sparked widespread concern across the state.
According to reports, the children were allegedly abducted by the family’s security guard, Sani Abdulrahman, who had been entrusted with their care.
Their father, a businessman identified simply as Danjuma, reportedly became alarmed after he was unable to locate his sons. His concerns deepened when he discovered that the security guard had also disappeared.
It was gathered that before leaving the house, Abdulrahman informed members of the household that he was taking the twins on a motorcycle ride into town to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festivities while their father was away.
When neither the children nor the security guard returned, the family launched a search and later reported the matter to the relevant authorities, triggering efforts to locate the missing boys.
After more than two months in captivity, the twins have now been reunited with their family.
Although the circumstances surrounding their rescue have not been officially disclosed by security authorities, sources familiar with the development said the children were released after a ransom was paid to their captors.
Authorities have yet to provide details on the amount allegedly paid or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the abduction.
Similarly, the current health condition of the boys has not been made public, although their safe return has brought relief to their family after weeks of uncertainty.
The incident adds to the growing number of kidnapping cases recorded in different parts of Nigeria, where children and other vulnerable victims are increasingly targeted by criminal gangs seeking ransom payments.
Security agencies are expected to continue investigations into the case, including efforts to apprehend those responsible for the abduction and determine the exact role allegedly played by the family’s security guard.
